Who can take it
This shingles vaccine is for people who have already had chickenpox who are aged 50 or older.
It’s okay to take this vaccine if you’ve already had shingles.
Doses and protection
Protection from the shingles vaccine is complete after 2 doses. The second dose is taken 2–6 months after the first dose.
This vaccine should reduce the risk of getting shingles. People who do get shingles after this vaccine should have milder symptoms and recover sooner.
Potential side effects
Potential side effects from the shingles vaccine usually only last a few days. They can include a headache, tiredness, and pain and redness where the needle went in.
